well date is a slow starter by nature. if u look at her matches she wud loose the 1st set and win the match easily on the 3rd set. date is the kind of player that u have to beat as soon as possible if not she keeps getting better and better (think Chris Evert). i think graf got lucky that her match was in the evening date was out playing her. she might have won the match if no stopped. and i c ur point though graf kinda rushed a bit, to finish of the match which helped date's cause. so yea :)

Maybe but I also think that Steffi started to rush herself as she wanted to complete the whole match that evening and have a day off. Against a lesser player that would have happened but Date was indeed a player that on her day could cause problems for anyone.

Thank you for posting this. I've been waiting for this for a long time. Date's rising shot was a talk in the media room those days. Also she was famous for her quick angle shots. Those are clearly seen in this match.

I remember this match - it was very entertaining and had it not been stopped due to darkness Date might very well have won. She had a funny game which gave Steffi awful trouble in this match.
