I have mixed opinions on this, but I think it's interesting that YT actually responded to this. I'm not sure I necessarily agree with what they did, but the fact that they did anything at all (along what you said about Captain O Awesome) makes me wonder if they are planning on getting more active with monitoring the content of videos.

Wow, takes a real wiener to complain to YouTube about a pm being revealed...I say as long as real life coordinates or identifying details aren't revealed, it's fair game. May not be nice, but when I send a pm I don't assume it's going to be kept private forever. Anyway, hope your day is progressing according to plan.

The rule makes sense, but in honesty, I think not revealing people's PM (without their consent) is just common courtesy. I don't see a problem in how Youtube currently works. It might be frustrating to people posting videos, but it's just normal for a service that is so new. I have no clue on how the world's first bank operated, but I'm willing to bet it's miles away from our current system. A lot of the rules appeared or changed along history.
